 Switched Reluctance Motors and Drives

The switched reluctance motor is a simple brushless motor technology.  The rotor contains no windings, conductors or magnets.  It is therefore very robust and especially suitable for high speed and high temperature.  The stator contains the excitation coils.  The power electronic drive is inherently fault tolerant with the electronics of each phase operating independently of another.

Technelec Ltd. has over 15 years experience in the design and control of flux switching motors and have constructed designs with one, two, three, four, five and seven phases.  One and two phase switched reluctance motors offer designers a very low cost solution for some applications while higher phase numbers have provided smooth torque output and very good efficiency.
